As developers, we like finding the right tool for the job. Blogging is no different. So instead of writing blogs in a word processor and pasting them into a Web interface (I find examples of this all over the Web - the tell tale sign are the "quote" characters that are rendered incorrectly), use the right tool.
There are quite a few tools with which to post blog items, and a Google search will uncover most. If you use Windows, try the free http://wbloggar.com/. I use Ecto on OS X.
Blogging is easy - and it costs little time to create an entry if you use one of these tools. Check out our FAQ for more information regarding the configuration.
Thanks to Nick for reminding me to share this advice.

In the Articles
this week, we take a look at Approaches to Performance Testing. Performance testing is a tricky business, and as Matt Maccaux explains, very much dependent on the type of results you want to achieve. Learn more about benchmarking, capacity planning, soak tests, and peak-rest tests.
You can also read a book excerpt from Pro Apache Beehive. Learn the architecture of Apache Beehive Controls, and how to write your own, in this excerpt from Pro Apache Beehive by Kunal Mittal and Srinivas Kanchanavally.
In the Blogs this week, Ken Lee makes some interesting observations about VOIP and SIP in portals, noting that "Google Talk has chosen XMPP has it's IM/presence protocol, but has announced intent to support SIP in the future." David Karr provides some advice on Making the exported Workshop build script automatically portable, and Satya Ghattu provides a very interesting breakdown of some of the new management features in WebLogic Server 9.0 in WLS 9.0 Management API - Part 2. He notes that, "prior to 9.0, we had only one MBeanServer that hosted all MBeans (Configuration, Runtime & Custom). In 9.0, WLS has four MBean servers, each of which provides access to different MBeans depending on their functionality. "
In the Newsgroups, Rob Woollen points to some interesting solutions that can be used to change the name used to bind an EJB. He says, "you could take advantage of an undocumented feature where ${APPNAME} in your ejb's jndi-name will be replaced with the application's name when it's bound into JNDI."
The poll, started this week, asks, "How long have you been using WebLogic Server?" Please participate by voting on the home page.

Jon: Very helpful post: With regard to http://wbloggar.com/, make sure you use dev2dev.bea.com, as using www.dev2dev.com does not work. Do not know why.
