Dev2Dev Editor's Blog | December 1, 2005   3:47 PM | Comments (0)

This week dev2dev released a new acronym on the world, SCA - the Service Component Architecture. Article GraphicBEA, together with IBM and a host of other companies, announced the set of specifications yesterday, and you can get a full description in Bill Roth's blog entry, SCA and the future of development.

In short, it looks to be another brick in the SOA implementation strategy. SOA is all about composition, and SCA looks like a concrete approach to performing composition. Bill describes it as "focusing on being able to describe assemblies of components which have been written in a variety programming models and protocols."

Also in our Article GraphicArticles this week, is Using and hacking Subclipse - the Subversion plugin for Eclipse. Subversion is a compelling replacement for the CVS version control system. This article shows how to access a Subversion repository (such as CodeShare) using the Subclipe Eclipse plug-in, and how to extend the plug-in itself.

In the Blogs this week, Hoos talks about What's in the Build?. He jokes that, "although everything works the build process is subject to daily verbal abuse and its principle creators name, rightly or wrongly, lives in infamy," and goes on to describe the woes of his build process and how he thinks it could be improved.

Hoos mentions WLST, as does Satya who describes how to execute a profile script whenever you invoke WLST in Having a profile for your WLST sessions.

Finally, in a rather cryptic first blog, Francois Deza notes that WLSS 2.1 documentation is public. What he means of course ;-), is that you can now access the documentation for WebLogic SIP Server 2.1! Have fun...

We've just finished the major dev2dev survey, and I'll be summarizing the results of that survey in a few weeks. In the mean time, check out the poll currently running on the home page, where we ask, "What is your preferred source for learning about new products and projects?" Is it books, articles, JSRs, blogs, forums or word-of-mouth?
