BEA have just released WebLogic Workshop 9.2 Beta and WebLogic Portal 9.2 Beta. You can download the bundle here and participate in the beta newsgroup too. You can also read the release notes for WebLogic Workshop 9.2 Beta and WebLogic Portal 9.2 Beta.

Note that this is the WebLogic Workshop that is built on the Eclipse Platform, instead of BEA's own (Workshop 8.1) platform. I note that the Workshop 9.2 Beta includes support for:

  • Java 5 annotations
  • Java Server Faces (JSF)
  • JSR 181 Web service
  • Upgrade tools with which to upgrade WebLogic Workshop 8.1 source

WebLogic Portal 9.2 Beta looks pretty interesting too, with support for:

  • IDE support from WebLogic Workshop 9.2
  • A redesigned WebLogic Portal Administration Console
  • A communities framework that provides enhanced support for building collaborative end-user-managed sites, including the out-of-the-box GroupSpace Community Template
  • New content management tools with support for JSR 170 and a new WYSIWYG editor

Go and give it a spin!

In the Article GraphicArticles we have Ajax Programming in BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1, Part 2. In the final part of the series examining low-level Ajax programming in BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1, John Margaglione provides several example portlets together with commentary explaining the pitfalls awaiting the unsuspecting Ajax programmer. Read the first part too. This is, of course, unrelated to the Portal 9.2 beta!

In the Blogs this week, Wendy Bales writes about JSR 170 (Content Repository) in The fine print of JSR 170 and Why is JSR 170 so important? As Wendy points out, without JSR 170 "customers need to write to proprietary APIs from each vendor to access their content repositories. This can end up locking a large percentage of information assets in vendor-specific formats, limiting access to information, and creating vendor lock-in."

The Poll that we began last week, we ask "Which unit testing framework would you prefer to use?" Please participate by voting on the home page.

  • Hello,
i still think there is a need for some kind of "bis2sol" forum with a sexy user interaction (ajax !!?) (not the oldfashion technical forum!)
The middleware impact is at the heart of IT evolution and high-level subjects that are seen via the blogs way needs to be seen in a more global view : so the forum way!
Some http://www.theserverside.com/ with a focus on bea would be useful to share interrogation and solution among architects and business users
blogs does not give the possibility to follow a question adebate or to have a birds view of the business IT week.
