Taking SOA to enterprise - now what?

Posted by ythuang on July 18, 2007 at 2:51 PM | Permalink | Comments (0)

So on one balmy day, while you are enjoying a well-deserved slow day after many moons of crazy work hours to get your SOA pilot project off the ground, your boss comes into the office. You feel a slight apprehension. The first words from your boss are, "Dude, the SOA pilot project is off the charts! Totally awesome, man!"

Well, okay, maybe not in THOSE exact words. But you get my drfit. However, before you have the time to pat yourself on the back, your boss continues, "With the corporate realignment of business and IT goals, we are anxious to fully utilize Service-Oriented Architecture as an IT strategy going forward . As the SOA pilot project is achieving all the metrics we have identified, I have been asked by the executive management team about our next steps: when can we start enteprise-wide deployment?"

Your brain automatically sifts through the corporate-speak and hones in on the last thing that's been said - when can we start enterprise-wide deployment?

Before you jump out of your chair and promise to deliver that the next day, it would be helpful to understand what are the key components required for an organization to take SOA to enterprise-wide deployment. As part of SOA for Architects, BEA Consulting is hosting a series of webinars to address these key components through August and September of 2007.

On August 1, Wayne Boland will discuss the elements necessary to adopt a consistent service engineering approach within your enterprise. Titled "Consistent Service Engineering and Management," this webinar highlights the importance of adopting a consistent approach to service engineering and management within an SOA. As an organization starts to scale SOA to span across functional and geographical boundaries, it is critical to ensure consistency in service engineering and management in order to executing against SOA goals and objectives. Register here.

On September 5, Dave Chappelle discusses SOA infrastructure, how it promotes SOA maturity, and how to plan for it. Titled "Building your Next Generation IT Infrastructure for SOA," the webinar touches on the importance of consistency of service architecture and the requirement of an infrastructure framework that links all the pieces together, ensuring interoperability as well as security.

Then on September 17, Steve Bennett and Ken Pechous will host a webinar to explore corporate development and SOA Governance. This webinar, "Commitment to corporate development required for SOA Governance to succeed," will highlight the need and scope of an SOA governance model as well as the commitment required to deploy such as solution - - including the commitment to corporate reskilling, why and when you need to reskill your internal staff versus outsourcing, and best practices and specific steps required for reskilling for an SOA environment.

Watch out for more details on the last two webinars on the calendar.

Test Yourself Before Taking the Exam

Posted by ythuang on March 27, 2007 at 11:07 AM | Permalink | Comments (2)

Don't you hate it when the only way to find out whether you are ready for something is to just dive in and see if you sink or swim? No opportunity for toe-dipping, no equipment like current meters or tide gauges, no lifesaving floats.

Which is what you've told us about our certification preparation materials - in short, the only way to know whether you are ready for certification is to take the exam, and it's an expensive assessment (US$150) especially if you don't pass it.

We've received feedback from you about the certification preparations you need, and we are pleased to announce the availability of mock exams. These mock exams include practice questions mimic actual questions on the BEA Certification exam. Answers are provided at the end.

Check out the mock exams now.

This week's mock exams feature the certification programs of BEA Certified Developer: 8.1 Build Solutions and BEA Certified Administrator: 8.1 Administration. More will be rolled out over the next couple of months, so stay tuned.
