I recently received an email asking for help to tackle an HttpClusterServlet configuration issue. Nothing interesting about that except that the request was sent to my personal email address and was from Iran. I had no idea WLS was being used in Iran. I was in Tehran last March and as far as I could tell Linux, PHP, Tomcat (Java, JSP, Servlets) and to a smaller extent JBoss and of course MS where common tools being used. It's a bit of a surprise to me that WLS was being used. Can anyone tell me if BEA have any kind of presence in Iran, or as Iran does not recognise US copyrights is this a possible indication of using hacked licenses?

If the emails keep comming in I will have to consider setting up a consultancy/support operation in Tehran :).

  • I used to work for a security company (build Java security providers) and I know how many barriers tend to be put up by western governments in regard to stopping software getting into the black-listed countries, of which Iran definitely is one. Especially where anything involving encryption is involved. I'd be very surprised if they were using licensed WebLogic ;-) Trevor
