We are pleased to announce to the BEA Dev2Dev community the availability of our BEA AquaLogic Commerce Services 5.1 product for download. This blog post provides you a couple days sneak peak at the product before our full public launch on bea.com this Tuesday. Simply put, AquaLogic Commerce Services provides the ability for enterprises to quickly and successfully create a sophisticated online commerce solution.
Traditional commerce products have been limited to two alternatives: First, Entry Level Commerce products, whose strengths are low TCO and easy to use interfaces, and weaknesses are limited functionality where modifications are difficult to impossible to achieve. Secondly, Build it Yourself Commerce solutions whose strengths include full featured capabilities and the ability to develop almost anything, but which are based on proprietary frameworks that require large services investments and whose features often fall behind the latest commerce innovations.
BEA AquaLogic Commerce Services is a flexible alternative which combines the strengths of both these alternatives, delivering low cost of ownership through simple and easy to use store management tools, while providing full featured commerce capabilities based on industry standards to enable you to deliver the capabilities you need. One significant focus with our product is the ability to leverage advanced search engine optimization techniques to attract customers ready to buy, along with a highly streamlined user interface to convert them to sales.
This product is designed to run as a stand-alone installation, or work in conjunction with BEA Portal technologies to add additional capabilities. The version we are delivering today for download comes configured for WebLogic Server, but the product is designed from the ground up to run on multiple server platforms which we will support in the future. Initial value-add Portal integrations are provided for WebLogic Portal, with support for BEA AquaLogic User Interaction in the near term.

Various features contained in the product include a Commerce Storefront, Commerce Management, and Commerce Integration services.

Storefront pages are designed from the ground up to be optimized to pull in search engine traffic, display products with all options in a clear and easy to understand manner, deliver cross and up-sell opportunities, leverage simplified site navigation and advanced search capabilities, and provide advanced shopping cart management facilities.

In the online world, it’s common that over half the shoppers who get to the checkout page leave without buying – imagine if that happened in the real world. Why does that happen?
- Shoppers only go to checkout to find the final price of their items, including taxes and delivery costs
- Shoppers are frustrated by time consuming and overly complex checkout processes
When a shopper has no surprises, can get all the information they need without entering personal information, and have a very usable experience, they abandon far less frequently. This product helps facilitate that by delivering an AJAX based one-page-checkout experience which takes far less time to finish the checkout and provides more visibility into the overall costs of the order.

You can see from the screenshot below that there are many web based tools included to provide store managers with facilities to manage customer service, fulfill orders, do catalog and data management, and also provide a dashboard on your stores current and historical performance.

This posting only covers a few of the basic capabilities of the AquaLogic Commerce Services product– so look for this Tuesday’s full public launch on http://www.bea.com for additional product information. As well, you can review the product documentation on our edocs site.
