What’s New – Embracing Web 2.0

  • AJAX Portals — BEA WebLogic Portal makes your portal desktop more responsive, without development, by providing a presentation framework that can update entire pages and portlets dynamically via AJAX.
  • Adrenaline — Web 2.0 mashups combine content from more than one source into an integrated experience. BEA WebLogic Portal includes Adrenaline technology which is used to create mashups that add portal services to existing Web application solutions.  More information on Adrenaline is available at our newly updated WebLogic Portal Web 2.0 Technology Lab.

Delivering Business Configuration Tools

  • Content presenter — A new content display portlet called the content presenter that is a wizard based business user tool to select content for display within a portlet. The portlet can be configured to display a content item, a folder full of content, the result of a content selector query, or the result of a keyword search.
  • Improved content management — Enhanced support for content approval with embedded content images and content queries that discern content state. Improved content taxonomy support with user specified content node and multi-value list ordering. Support for more complex content queries with support for multiple conditions based on characteristics as well as the ability to select content in different states of the content workflow lifecycle.

Improved Portal Lifecycle Management

For Administrators:

  • Multi-version Upgrade Wizard — Upgrade BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1.4+ and 9.2 applications and WebLogic Server domains to version 10. A step-by-step process provides pre-upgrade reporting that doesn't affect the original source code, automatic handling of application and project structure upgrade, automatic file extension renaming, and both wizard and command line upgrade interfaces.
  • Flexible Administration Tools — New modules can be added to the administration tools and sections of the entire administration portal application can be reused in custom portals. Customers can re-brand the Administration portal more easily to suit custom portal management requirements.
  • Improved Propagation User Interface — Simplified management for migrating portal changes from development to staging to production. Propagation tools have been improved providing a better understanding of the pending propagation process.

For Developers:

  • Standard Frameworks — Additional support for Spring Core and Spring MVC and the Apache MyFaces implementation of JavaServer Faces, including the ability for JSR components to use Inter Portlet Communication.
  • Eclipse 3.2 — BEA Workshop for WebLogic is now based on Eclipse 3.2 and includes support for installing the Workshop plugins into an existing Eclipse 3.2 environment.
  • Portal Standards — Support for the latest 2.0 version of the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) standard and new wizards for federating remote pages and books as easily as portlets.  Improved JSR-168 portlet developer tools including an import / export wizard.
  • MySQL support — Support for MySQL version 5, a leading open source database.
