As we are putting final touches on the 1.1 release of WebLogic Server Tools for Eclipse and are starting to plan for the next couple of releases, I thought it would be useful to get some user feedback about where you (our users) would like to see WebLogic Server Tools go.

  1. Are there features that you would really like to see added to WebLogic Server Tools? Please be specific.
  2. Here are some of the features that we are considering. Would you find these useful? If so, please indicate which ones. Of the ones you select, please rank them in the order of importance to you.
    1. Graphical editor for WebLogic-specific deployment descriptors (weblogic.xml and weblogic-application.xml). This would probably take the form of a multi-page editor with form elements for various parts of those descriptors.
    2. Support for authoring of WebLogic Shared J2EE Libraries (also known as Library Modules). Basically, the ability to work an a project containing the source for the library at the same time as the project that's consuming the library without having to constantly export the library archive.
    3. Support for deploying and running apps on remote servers.
    4. Support for interacting with clusters of servers.
    5. Administrative tools. We have some administrative functions already. This is referring to expanding on that and getting more of what you can do using the web-based WLS Console to be available directly in Eclipse.
  3. How stable and bug-free is your experience with WebLogic Server Tools? Would you rather see the next release be a service release or a feature release?

Let us know what you think by posting comments to this blog.

  • I would like to have more Administrative tools. Creating Datasources, JMS Connections (and queues, topics), show the JNDI tree. Most important foe me is that the Tools are "Rock Solid" rather than have a lot of features. Many Thanks for this plugin! /Thomas
