A WebLogic domain describes the configuration of a WebLogic. The domain captures configuration information such as connection pools, JMS destinations, cluster nodes and applications. There are many tools and techniques available for creating, configuring, and monitoring the domain. These techniques range from manual with WebLogic Console, to templating options with ANT, and various scripting solutions such as WebLogic Server Scripting Tool (WLST).
The presentation is based on two articles that I wrote for WebLogic Developers Journal (WLDJ). The primary focus of the articles and presentation is going to be configuration, and less on domain creation and monitoring. However, the tools and techniques are equally valuable for creating and monitoring a domain. In Strategies for Domain Configuration I, I cover the manual and popular, but frankly not very interesting options. In Strategies for Domain Configuration II, I cover the powerful scripting options.
I have created a very dynamic and fun presentation with pros and cons of each approach. I will post the presentation as soon as it is ready. (I will post the presentation, most likely after the meeting). In the meantime, just to get the fun started, I have created a poll to ascertain what you are using for WebLogic domain configuration. Please click here to participate in the poll, and share with us on what you use for domain configuration.
More information about the meeting, including logistics, is available here. Additional information about BEA Users Groups, in general, is available here.
Please share your knowledge and experience on-line, or even better yet in person!
Best regards,
