BEA announces today that it is acquiring Solarmetric. So what does it all mean? It means that BEA will have a rock solid persistence engine of its own. Solarmetric supports blended JDO (Java Data Objects) and EJB 3 -- with one of the fastest fastest O/R mapping layer in the industry. Solarmetric allows Java application developers to readily take advantage of relational XML data stores. This increases developer productivity via advanced visual tools and reduces the need for hand coded metadata.

Our overall acquisition strategy lately has been to do things that help us leapfrog the competition. By purchasing Solarmetric, we have the ability to deliver rock-solid persistence. This is something that makes developers lives easier when working with databases. It is ultimately about productivity. This acquisition is a perfect follow-on to the M7 acquisition, which will allow us to take the lead in EJB3 developer as well as blended open source development as well.

Shameless plug alert: Make sure you download a copy of our soon to be named BEA Workshop (NitroX) today.
