Krugle Now Hosts Code Search Database for Dev2Dev

April 23, 2008

Krugle

Dev2Dev is now a part of the elite club of large developer networks that work with Krugle code search. IBM developerWorks, Sun's java.net, SourceForge.net, Amazon Web Services, and Yahoo! Developer Network all update Krugle's databases with their latest code. Starting today, Dev2Dev developers can opt to have their code indexed and made publicly searchable through Krugle as well.

Krugle helps developers find, browse and learn about open source code, directly from their favorite browser or IDE. Krugle's vast index of public information includes over 2.6 billion lines of source code contained in over 170,000 open source project.

Krugle collects and indexes source code in over 40 languages along with documentation and databases associated with the code. Krugle uses project metadata along with the structure of the code - function, class and method definitions - to make finding "the right" code fast and intuitive. The programmer can search for code by code attribute, author, project, license, time, issue tracking system references, project descriptions and more. Krugle combines this loosely coupled metadata with an intuitive search to make searching open source code highly productive and accurate.

Krugle also has advanced query capabilities, direct review of code files from within the search client, and search options for tracking dependencies. Documentation related to resulting code files is available, and all search information (from metadata to input streams to class data structures to function call and API documentation) can be saved and shared through a codespace URL.

Krugal's search technology is also available behind the firewall. Krugle's Enterprise appliance organizes code and related development resources into a searchable, shareable asset. Enterprise developers can take advantage of Krugle's Enterprise 2.0 Search Appliance to search both open source and public code from the Web along with all of the enterprise code maintained in corporate repositories.

You can learn more about contributing Dev2Dev code samples and projects to Krugle by going to the CodeShare Code Submission Portal.
