The Phoney War was the time early in World War II from September 1939 until May 1940. Germany had invaded Poland in September 1939 and Britain had declared war on Germany, yet nothing (much) was happening. Life went on pretty much as normal on the streets of Britain, France and Germany. The Phoney War ended on May 10 1940 when Germany invaded Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg.
