Do you want to blog on dev2dev?

[Ed. Note, 20 June 2008: new Dev2Dev blogs are no longer being created. BEA/Oracle employees will be able to create a new blog on the Oracle Technology Network in July or soon after.]

Before you get started

We'd really like you to blog for us, but before we tell you how to get your own shiny new blog, it's worth pointing out our blogging policy. This policy outlines what BEA thinks about blogging and its place in our communication about technologies and products. It also provides some guidelines on what to say, and more importantly what not to say. Give it a read. If you're comfortable with what's there, then read on.

Realize that blogging should be easy

There are plenty of technologies that make blogging easy. With a good blog client, it's as simple and quick as sending an email. Blogging should not be a burden - if it is, you're doing something wrong! Read the FAQ for additional technical details.

Who can blog?

Anyone. We have both BEA employees and external contributors blogging on dev2dev.

Examples of blogs and bloggers

We have a number of existing bloggers on dev2dev, and you can read what they say on our main blog page. There are all types of blogs; some provide paragraphs of detail and appear quite article-like, while some have short paragraphs of information. Write in whatever way that suits you, bearing in mind our policy. Here are a few examples:

  • Chris Hogue is an Engineering Program Manager on the Workshop team, writing about something he knows and is clearly passionate about. His blog entries are technical, and often contain lots of code snippets (and graphics too).
  • Quinton Wall is a BEA business consultant, and writes about whatever is on his mind, from portals to use-cases to SOA.
  • Bill Roth is upper level management, and contains a great mix of announcements and technical details.
  • My own blog is an information-style blog, describing new events, articles and blogs. Are you working on a public project - share it!
