Subject: Security Advisory (BEA07-165.00)
From: BEA Systems Inc.
Minor Subject: WebLogic JMS Message Bridge not enforcing proper credentials to access a protected queue
Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Server
Threat level: Medium
A WebLogic JMS Message Bridge may be able to send unauthorized messages to a queue protected by a security policy
Severity: Low
An attacker may be able to send unauthorized messages to a protected queue
A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. A patch is available to correct this problem (see Section II). BEA Systems treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, BEA Systems strongly suggests the following actions:
I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.
I. Advisory
A WebLogic JMS Bridge configured without destination username and password could transfer messages to a queue protected with a security access policy. The Bridge may also ignore the username and password configured with the bridge destination when connection URL is not defined.
A patch is available to correct this issue by enforcing the correct use of the username and password defined in the Bridge-destination configuration. The Bridge will use "anonymous" when no username or password has been configured for a destination.
