Jon Mountjoy worked as the editor-in-chief and community manager of Dev2Dev and Arch2Arch until April 2008. He enjoys working with XML, Java EE, Spring and Ruby. He is co-author of WebLogic: The Definitive Guide.

He maintained three blogs on the site, now all in hibernation: Dev2Dev Editor's Blog about Dev2Dev activities, the Arch2Arch Editor's Blog, and a more personal blog used for conference coverage.

Develop@BEAWorld Barcelona Day Summary: Develop@BEAWorld got off to a great start today with a keynote delivered by Rod Johnson. I enjoyed hearing that J2EE was not terribly object oriented because of the "excessive focus on distributed objects." More on Ajax, advanced class reshaping too.

Scripting - where's the PHP?: There was a lot of interest here on scripting languages on the JVM, and rightly so, but one language was glaringly absent. PHP. Why? I don't know - I mean it's only one of the most popular scripting languages around!

Ruby on Rails enterprise ready?: I've just come across a scary thread on the Ruby on Rails site: stale database connection handling is rather 'suboptimal.' Given this behaviour, why is Rails so eagerly adopted in enterprises? I surmise that lacking enterprise features doesn't matter - Rails targets the long tail far more effectively than J2EE.

Repositories everywhere, not a document to read: Content repositories are everywhere, and I want to access them easily, and uniformly. Is JSR 170 (Content Repository) going to come to the rescue? I see BEA are going to have some support for it too in WebLogic Portal.

JRockit is Hot: There has been a lot of talk about JRockit during these past few days at JavaOne, and a few days ago I blogged about the additional tooling and chip set(AMD, SPARC) support. Yesterday I learned even more - AOP integration at the JVM layer.
