Henrik Stahl



Henrik Ståhl works as a product manager in the JRockit team, and has been with BEA since 2004. His experience with JRockit goes back to the first public release, for which he was an early beta tester. He has previously worked as a developer, systems architect, with performance testing and tuning, and with IT security.

Performance Tip: Using numactl to Control CPU and Memory Affinity: The numactl command allows you to control process locality on a NUMA system. Used properly, it can increase application throughput and decrease GC pause times of your java application.

New SPECjbb2005 World Record with JRockit!: A new set of SPECjbb2005 results put Silicon Graphics firmly in the lead with impressive JRockit/Itanium-based scores, beating competitors by ~50% or more in terms of performance and price/performance. Complemented by low-end publications by other server vendors, this demonstrates the performance advantage of using JRockit - around 20% on otherwise similar or identical configurations.

New SPECjbb2000 and SPECjbb2005 records with JRockit: Over the last month, a large set of record-breaking SPECjbb2000 and SPECjbb2005 results have been published using JRockit. While it is as always hard to make apples-vs-pears comparisons, the results still show that configurations using JRockit beat configurations using other JVMs by 20-30%.

How to get (almost) 3 GB heap on Windows!: The current JRockit 5.0 release is limited in how much Java heap it can allocate on Windows. The upcoming JRockit 5.0 R26 have increased the maximum heap size on Windows to almost 3 GB, approximately one GB more than any other JVM the JRockit team has tested.

JRockit is the world's fastest JVM!: BEA claims that JRockit is the world's fastest JVM, based on comparisons run on indentical hardware. Sun tries to refute this claim in a recent blog entry, but their logic is faulty.
