Description:
With 17 sponsoring vendors, Service Component Architecture (SCA) represents an important industry initiative to produce next-generation service infrastructure. This talk will provide an overview of SCA, focusing on how SCA will impact technology strategy over the next two years. In addition to discussing the evolution of SCA as an industry collaboration effort, the talk will cover the key elements of SCA, including assembly and composition, service authoring, and policy.
Presenter: Michael Rowley works in the office of the CTO, where he is involved in initiatives related to SOA-based programming models and business process management. Recently he has been one of the primary authors of the Service Component Architecture (SCA) specifications. He is currently the chair of SCA's Java working group and one of the editors of the SCA Assembly and SCA BPEL specifications.
Before joining the office of the CTO, Michael was a software architect in product development. Over the last 4 years he has worked on ALSB, WLI, WLRT and WLS. He received a Ph.D. from UCLA in 1994 with research related to OO database systems.

Without support for WS-AtomicTransaction, there is no point to SCA in combination with Web Services.

ALER
has initial support for the SCA Assembly model. The next release of WLS will support the development, assembly and deployment of components that use the SCA Java programming model. Also ALDSP supports SDO.

next generation - i don't think so!

Hi all,
You have a great product in aqualogic, and a great seminar you oresented here in Dublin at Morrison's but...
SCA is the next generation of SOA???
Does anyone not remember that CORBA (which weblogic is based on) HAS ALWAYS BEEN BOTH SERVICE ORIENTATED AND COMPONENT BASED through the IDL defined component interfaces. The interaction between these component interfaces has ALWAYS been architected by UML sequence/collaboration diagrams, which thus fullfil the Use Cases and defines the application!
Please Guy's, just tell me what exactly is new here. I have been advocating this for over 15 years now.
TIA
Best Regards

In my opinion, the main difference is simplicity. I suspect the complexity of CORBA has limited its adoption.
I know that simplicity is subjective, but consider that the Java programming model has only 5 interfaces and 19 annotations. In many cases, I expect people would be able to create their services using no APIs and only 3 annotations (@remotable, @property and @reference).
In simple cases, such classes can be deployed without having to create an assembly file or any other XML configuration.
